Question

In a photocell experiment with a fixed metal surface, light of frequency just above threshold is first used at intensity II. Then the intensity is doubled without changing frequency. Finally, the frequency is increased while the photon flux is kept the same.
Total: 4 marks

(a) What happens to the saturation current when intensity is doubled at the same frequency? (1 mark)

(b) What happens to the stopping potential when intensity is doubled at the same frequency? (1 mark)

(c) What happens to the stopping potential when frequency is increased above threshold? (1 mark)

(d) Give the physical reason for your answer in part (c). (1 mark)
