A sonometer wire gives frequency 256 Hz256\text{ Hz} at length 50 cm50\text{ cm} under a fixed tension. The same wire is then adjusted under the same tension. Assume frequency is inversely proportional to vibrating length.

(b) Find the length needed for frequency 320 Hz320\text{ Hz}. (1 mark)

(c) If a 256 Hz256\text{ Hz} fork is sounded with a 252 Hz252\text{ Hz} wire, find the beat frequency. (1 mark)

(d) Explain why increasing the vibrating length lowers the frequency. (1 mark)
